Neck Lift

A defined neck and crisp chin–neck angle—precision neck lifting for banding, fullness, and laxity.

Overview

A neck lift refines the cervicomental angle by tightening the platysma, reducing excess fat (below and, when appropriate, above the platysma), and removing lax skin. It is frequently combined with a facelift but can be performed as a focused procedure for patients whose primary concern is the neck. Our Northern Virginia and DC practice offers personalized care from consultation to glowing recovery.

Surgical Notes

  • Downtime: ~7–10 days for social recovery
  • Anesthesia: General anesthesia (occasionally sedation for limited procedures)
  • Setting: Accredited surgery center
  • Incisions/Scars: Discrete under the chin (submental) and behind the ears as indicated
  • Results Timeline: Early definition within days; full definition over 3–6 months
  • Longevity: 7-10 years with graceful aging

Goals of Neck Lift

  • Sharpen the jaw–neck transition and improve profile
  • Reduce vertical neck bands and hanging fullness
  • Provide deep structural lift for lasting support
  • Enhance overall facial rejuvenation without overcorrection

Candidates for a Neck Lift

  • Prominent neck bands, heaviness under the chin, or mild jowling
  • You desire a refined neck that aligns with your facial features
  • Adequate skin elasticity for isolated procedures, or willingness to pair with facelift for optimal redraping
  • Good health and realistic expectations
  • Nonsmoker or committed to an optimized perioperative protocol

Dr. Slamin’s Neck Lift Approach

Consultation & Planning

We evaluate skin quality, fat distribution, platysma, and chin position. If chin projection is limited, adjunct chin augmentation may further define the profile.

Technical Aspects

  • Platysmaplasty: Corset-like suturing centrally and elevation laterally for muscle tightening
  • Deep Neck Lift Sculpting: Defining the lateral jawline, especially on neck flexion
  • Liposuction: Gentle contouring of submental fat.
  • Skin Redraping: Minimal excision for natural tension.
  • Extended Approach: Connects to facelift when indicated.

Day of Procedure

Typical operative time is 2–3 hours. A light wrap and drains may be placed. Home the same day with clear aftercare provided in advance.
